George Washington once said, “When we assumed the Soldier, we did not lay aside the Citizen.” American Veterans Vote – Unite (AVV Unite) is a 501c(4) organization that connects the roles of Soldier and Citizen by working to get all Veterans to vote. We want to convince Veterans to vote by speaking to important policy issues as Veterans ourselves and by showing them how their vote really does count. Importantly, we don’t speak for Veterans; we speak as Veterans.
AVV Unite is focused on three policy issue areas, all of direct concern to Veterans. First, we look at issues affecting the Constitution, as written and amended. Second, we consider issues related to the defense of the United States, both at home and abroad. Finally, we look at issues affecting the families of active-duty service members and Veterans.
We produce our background papers on key topics in these three baskets to articulate our views, to provide substantive background for politicians and candidates who can affect the laws, and to hold elected officials accountable while in office.
Attached below are the background papers that we have prepared. They are available to every elected official and candidate, regardless of political affiliation.
